Let us take you on a journey back in time. Birka was founded in the 750s as Sweden?s first real town. Trade and barter flourished here for over 200 years before the town was suddenly abandoned.

(Stadshuskajen) or Hovgården. M/S Eskil from Södertälje, Strängnäs, Västerås or Härjarö. On board you can enjoy delicious food and drinks in the restaurant (M/S Victoria), or have a hot cup of coffe on the aft deck.
Birka is now a very popular destination for both adults and children, and the interest in the Viking era is growing all the time. On your arrival, highly skilled archaeologists and educated guides will guide you through the ancient remains, meanwhile you get educated about the viking era. You will also learn what life was like in this ancient town. You are very welcome to visit the museum and the restaurant Särimner, at Birka.
This boat tour to Björkö/Birka includes both on-board and on-land guiding, as well as your entrance fee to the museum.
There is a viking camp with handicrafts men, viking ships and activities for the children, during the peak season (1 july-20 August).
See how viking age houses are build with help of methods and tools used at that era. The handicrafts men will gladely explain and tell you about their work.
The houses wil be used for different activities such as school camps, courses, public handicraft activities and business events.
During 2007 two more houses will be constructed by Gotland University, as a part of the university program; "Vikingatida byggnader".
